The short version: we do not hold any personal information about you.
My Cars App has no accounts, no sign-up and no login. We never ask for your name, your email address or your phone number. The cars you save and the dates you enter stay on your own phone. We hold information about vehicles, not about people.
My Cars App is operated by Transpeed Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 12922090), registered office 3 Highsted Road, Kirby, Liverpool, L33 1AX. We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office under reference ZA890385. Contact us at contact@mycarsapp.co.uk.
My Cars App is an independent service. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated on behalf of DVSA, DVLA or any government department.
When you check a registration number, the app sends just that registration to our server. Our server asks DVSA and DVLA for the vehicle's MOT and tax information, and sends the answer back to your phone. The only reason our server sits in the middle is to hold the government API keys securely — they cannot safely be stored inside a mobile app.
Your phone then keeps the result. Your saved cars, the dates you enter and your reminders are stored in the app's own storage on your device. They are not uploaded to us, and we cannot see them.
Once a day the app refreshes the vehicles you have saved, so your reminders stay accurate if a date changes. That refresh sends the registration numbers to our server in the same way as a manual check.
| Information | Why | How long we keep it |
|---|---|---|
| The vehicle registration number you check or have saved | To ask DVSA and DVLA for that vehicle's details | Not stored against you. Held only for the moment of the request |
| The vehicle data returned by DVSA and DVLA | Held briefly so the app answers quickly | Up to 24 hours, and never linked to you or your device |
| Your IP address, in our web server's standard access log | Unavoidable in any internet request; used to keep the service running and to block abuse | 14 days, then deleted automatically |
| Any email you send us | To answer your question | Up to 2 years |
That is the complete list of what we receive. We use no advertising or cross-site tracking software of any kind, and the app contains no analytics. This website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless and does not identify individual visitors — see "Who else is involved" below.
A vehicle registration number can relate to an identifiable person, so we treat it carefully even though we do not know who you are. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests: providing the vehicle information service you have asked us for. Please only save vehicles you own or are responsible for, and do not use the app to investigate other people.
Reminders are scheduled by your phone, by Android or iOS, from dates the app already holds locally. We do not send them, we do not hold a notification token for your device, and we have no way to contact you.
The one-off unlock is bought and processed entirely by Google Play or the Apple App Store under their own terms. We never see or store your card details, your billing address or your store account. All the app learns is that a valid purchase exists on that device.
Vehicle information is retrieved from official UK government sources: DVSA MOT records and the DVLA vehicle enquiry service. Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
We use no other third parties, and we do not sell, rent or share anything with anyone for marketing.
Everything the app holds about you is on your phone. Uninstalling the app removes all of it. You can also remove individual vehicles inside the app at any time.
There is no account to close and nothing on our side to erase, because we hold nothing that identifies you. See deleting your data for more.
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to processing, and to receive it in a portable form.
In practice we cannot identify you from anything we hold, so we are usually unable to link a request to a particular person — and UK GDPR does not require us to collect extra information simply to make that possible. Because your data lives on your own device, uninstalling the app achieves what an erasure request would. If you have emailed us, we can of course delete that correspondence on request.
If you are unhappy with how we handle data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
My Cars App is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.
This website uses no cookies at all. Our website analytics (Cloudflare Web Analytics) is cookieless: it sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device and does not identify you — which is why you see no cookie banner. The app does not use cookies.
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top and, for significant changes, tell you in the app. If we ever introduce optional accounts, that would be a significant change and we would say so plainly before it happened.
